Did you stone any of that Marc or is it all woodburned.....don't see much of the dark burnt wood? Dave

Actually the feathers are so small that I didn't do much stoning on this piece at all. And the feathers on a Hummingbird in many areas on the bird are very 'shingle' like. By that I mean each feather stands out from the others. With stoning I feel it has a tendancy to smooth the area out. I didn't want that with this piece.

Well this got a little out of hand as far as a WIP. Sorry. Have lots of photos of it in progress but was really short of time to keep up with posting them. Here's the finished piece. Named it "Beija-Flor" which is Portuguese for "flower kisser" or "to kiss a flower". Seems the Portuguese explorers when they landed in Brazil saw the Ruby Throated and were amazed by it and gave it this name.

Everything is carved from tupelo. Hosta flower/buds/etc. took longer than the bird! 3 pieces. Stem/flowers are removable and the bird is removable.

That is the COOList hummer carving I have ever seen. The composition of carving and mounting is awesome. the paint is outstanding. Very very impressive piece.
