Hi Bird Carver, Looks great but I have to ask...how do you do the texturing of the breast feathers? I like your's so much better than how I do them. I need to try your way. Great looking bird. Dwayne |

Nice job on the sparrow, like your paint job as well. Difficult little bird to paint.

Thanks everyone for your great comments. Dwayne I use the texturing rods that is sold at MDI. I have the edge of the texturing rod as sharp as possible. Meaning 90 degree's with a clean sharp edge. And then I carve every feather indvidually, with the feather shaft shown for each feather also. Good luck! Bird carver |

Hi Bird Carver, Okay, I have to ask a very embarrassing follow up question. Never having used, or even seen a texturing rod until just now when I went to the MDI web site (I must be the only one who's never used one so I feel stupid)...how do you use it? I couldn't find any info even by Googling it. Do you use it to basically scratch, or sand in the individual feather flutes with the edge (end) of the rod? Maybe you or someone else can give a brief explanation. If it's too long of an explanation don't worry about responding. I'm sure you have better things to do...like actually carve more wonderful birds. Thanks, Dwayne |

You got it Dwayne, all you do is just scratch as you say each flute of the feather. But like I said to get a better edge on the tool ( the texturing rod ) by keeping it sharp by using sand papper or a flat stone at the flat bottom of the texturing rod keeping it at it's normal 90 degree edge. If you shorten the diameter of the texturing rod you will find it to work much better on small bird feathers. Anymore question's please ask. Bird carver

Thanks for such a quick response Bird Carver. Now I'm absolutely intriqued. I think I'll order a set of rods and play. It's great learning new methods. You may see a different style on my next bird posting which hopefully will be a sharp shinned hawk. Thanks again, Dwayne |
