If you can get your hands on a copy of the Audubon field guide to eastern birds, you'll find a pretty good picture in there. ZMy scanner's busted so I can't send you a copy.
Thanks for the help. I have searched Google and VISTA but the pictures aren't much help. I am fairly new at this hobby and my problem is duplicating the colours. I have Keith Muellers' chart and it helps if you get a good 'close up'

You might try http://www.naturephotographers.net/index.html
and search for whip poor will under the 'Avian Forum'. I know you'll find a few close-up photos there. I think you'll have to register at the site to gain access but it's worth it and results in no spam or trouble.
