OOOhhh my! Wierd feeling! They resemble my parents when I was a young nipper, dragging my sorry butt home at the wee hours of the morning! Ma looking hawkish (Boy are you going to get it when you're sober) and Da looking wise (Been there done that dummy, are you going to feel terrible in a few hours), and a little sister flapping around the sidelines...(Your in for it now!!!) Bob

BOB!!! I can't believe a fine upstanding ex-sailor would ever act in such a manner. Having spent a couple years in the U.S. Navy, in the South China Sea, Viet Nam Era, I know exactly where you're coming from. It's amazing some of the things a man does when he's young and goofy. Garon |

I can relate to Bobs story. LOL. Time for a story about a wood pile. I was buying for our second hand store and went into a mans shed. While there I noticed a pile of fire wood, odd shapes. I asked about them, and he said his father had fished lobster years ago, and had carved each and every bouy for his traps. The man was using them for firewood. I bought them all,( 1/2 cord) fish, lighthouses, boats, you name it, the old guy had carved out each and every pot bouy. Made me think of it when I read El woods post. People have been carving for more years than I could ever remember. Merry Christmas folks

El, Nice woodpile, Can I come and go through it? Nah, I gots enough to keep me busy. A Fireman/paramedic, who was suppose to get a carve Fireman for Christmas will have to wait a little longer for his and I guess it will have to be a present for next year. Well, My son will understand as he has several that I have carved for him in ppast years and has an standing/sitting Eagle he got years ago when he received his Eagle in Scouts. NIce pictures El Bob, I would never have guess you were an old Salt. Can relate to your story way to many times.

It sounds like you know what you are doing with pastels, but the professionals I know in that medium have come to "aways" wear protective masks and laytex gloves while painting with their chalk pastels these days. It being the purest and equally harmful compact form of mineral pigments that used to cause the early death of many artists deserves being careful with. It also goes airborn more easily than the pigments used in oil pastels or oil paints or whatever else and can be absorbed through the skin, mouth, eyes and stuff too. I've been lectured on the subject myself, so feel confident passing on the warning.... If you haven't tried that, you might want to. Being allergic sounds like a big double wammy from such a beautiful form of painting. Doing the painting for your son sounds like something he'll really appreciate, even in an e-mailed image form. Safe holiday wishes to him and your family while he's over there. Thor |

You will have to keep us posted on the progress of that piece. It certainly looks like it is off to a great start! Mine look like that when they're finished... editing your posts? or am I beginning to lose my mind? one hermit to another. Thor |

Some more wierd birds the painted bird is a carving I bought in Hong Kong. I can't carve that good,... yet. Trying to figure out how to attach the wings. The four legged bird I started yesterday I think it's lodge pole, not sure, found it up around Custer S.D.. It has a very faint aroma of cedar and portions of it have turned blue with age . . The relief I started 15 yrs ago and gave up on it. started fool'n with it a couple of weeks ago. Sorry bout the picture quality
