Don't ya just love this board, for all of the amaizing folks and their work on here!

Gilly, I honestly don't know his dimensions I will measure him tomorrow. But he is approx. 8" long x 5 or so high.

Jax, it is really hard trying to make something that ugly attractive.
No worries Nancy, I was just curious how tall he was, the original WIP photo looked really big.

Nancy ugly is in the eye of the beholder I think he is beautiful and you did a wonderful job on the carving. Just wondering the tusks are they bass wood as well or did you use bone? Also did you insert them after or is it all one piece. Never the less you did a magnificent job.

Thanks all I had a really hard time getting a color that I thought was realistic. At first he was way too dark. I managed to lighten that up some and still keep the blue/black skin tone. Then I blended different browns in.

The tusks are carved right in not inserted. I painted them with antique white and shaded the age lines in with Terra Cotta mixed with antique white. The tail was carved right on the body too but I must admit I did break it off and had to glue it on again.

I just measured him and he is 4 3/4" high at the withers (highest point) and 7" long from tusk to the point of the hock on the back stretched leg.

For the setting I carved the large rocks and glued them and "blades of grass" ( spanish moss bought at Wally world) to a piece of 1/8" Italian Popular board I had. I then coated the board and slightly up on the rocks with glue and sprinkled it with our sand which is quite gravely. Sprayed several times with Deft. Once it dried I painted the sand with Trail Tan to lighten it up a bit and dull the shine on it. Another light spray of Deft.

Sorry WhatsThat He already has a home to go to.

Thanks for sharing Nancy! Sometimes we focus on the carving when almost as much goes into the setting in which a carving is placed. Thanks again!
