Charlotte,

Lori and Robyn are two different ladies who both carve songbirds. I think Lori's books are a little more secientific than Robyns. Both are excellent carvers, and either book is excellent reference material. Bruce Burke's book is more decoy and duck oriented. Just my $.02.

Hi Charlotte, I sent you a few PP presentations, if you don't have PP viewer, just type in PP viewer on your search bar, and its a free download to view the photos.

Hi Charlotte, I have Lorie Corbett's bird carving book it is a very good book even for the beginner.(like me). you can't go wrong with her book. I've noticed most bird carving books show the "roughing out" and "fine detailing" being done with power tools and wood burning. I too am trying to learn to carve birds, but it seems to be the hardest thing to carve because you have not only carving, but wood burning and painting to master as well. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
Hank

Hi Charlotte, first of all if you don't try then you have already lost. I don't see you as being one of the many who look at something and say to themselves...NOPE, I cannot do that. and walk away leaving the challenge laying on the floor.

Instead of trying to do a detailed Songbird as your first how about a SMOOTHIE. No burner needed and use ready made cast feet. Get on the net and get around 2 dozen images from every concievable angle. Make sure you have your feather groups defined without going overboard and paint the bird as best you can.

In time your skills will improve, and you will acquire the next set of tools and you will be on your way.

Thank's everyone for all the good advice.. Hugh Parks told me about the smooth models that you can order.. That is a good thing to really help. So I am going to order some models and get Daisey's song birds one and two for a start.. I am so slow these days that it night be a year before I can post a picture.. Grin... but I will keep trying the Lord willing.. Thank's again..Charlotte
