Default Twites....

The twite is a small bird, smaller than a sparrow...this was a commissioned piece..
quite stressing to do, not very familiar with this bird... this was to be a family, male, female, & juvenile bird...nest with eggs, female to be lifted off nest if required, the photos don't show the juvenile bird, still a bit of work to be done.. also this sits on a round turned base, these are life size , base is approx 600mm
in diameter.. these are carved from lime & painted with acrylic paints (must try oils one-day) ferns & leafs are made from strong brown parcel paper, which are
soaked with sanding sealer, then lines are scored into these with a blunt awl..
eggs were turned on a flexy hand-piece, nest was also turned on lathe ,then small brush hairs stuck to it (sweeping brush) think its coconut hair?...mark.

Was this another of those where the habitat took longer to prepare than the birds themselves? Did you make the small clumps of grass from the parcel paper too (and the leafy weeds)?

Lest I forget... excellent work - as we expect from you.

Great work and wonderful wee birds .
I was up on the wee Island of Oronsay a year past September and at the edge of every track there were loads of Twite picking up the wind blown seeds .
