| | Re: Twisted Snake Cane I love the snake sticks. Mostly I have done them as hiking sticks and have never done a cane.Backwards scales or not that is one fine piece. Come to think of it, those scales may make the piece sell for what it is really worth. Folks don't think of how much time we invest in these projects.Whittler |

| | Re: Twisted Snake Cane I have found that regular cane tips like the ones from the pharmacy at wallyworld are much better and hold up better than the rubber chair tips also sold at wallyworld and other places....two of the cane tips in a box are 2.50 I believe....but remember when buying the sizes. The listed size is actually 1/8 smaller! So buy 3/4 if you want 5/8's etc, or 1" if you want 7/8's etc |

Bob | Bob: Thanks for the link. This is one of the best I've ever visited and can't believe that I've never found it. I really like the detailed tutorial he offers on carving a snake on a stick from a log. A very talented gentleman and some informative stuff!!
Can't wait 'till Saturday when I can get to WallyWorld for some of those tips and after studying the tutorial from the above mentioned website, I guess that I'll have to start looking for some much larger trees for future snake sticks... more like logs! |

| | Re: Twisted Snake Cane I met the gentleman at a local carving show! His stuff was amazing! I'm going to contact him to see if he would be interested in doing an article with us. WHile the snake scales are detailed (and time consuming) we would be able to show how to do a couple--and let the carvers take it from there!

Bob | Thought that I'd add a footnote to one of my first postings on WCI more than 3 years ago...
I just got the latest issue #43 (Summer, 2008) of WCI and was delighted to see Mr. Stehly's amazing snake canes featured in the magazine as I've been waiting "years" for it! Can't count how many times that I've been to his website so this was a wonderful delight! I really look forward to reading this one over and over, then seeing how his methods can improve my own work. Great work Bob and thank's to David Stehly for sharing his work with us!
If you haven't received the latest issue of WCI David's website is at: Walking Sticks and Canes by David N. Stehly |

| | Re: Twisted Snake Cane Think most good hardware stores,You can get different sizes of the rubber tips. Im not all that myself into snakes and ones on canes even thoug Ive carved a few. You did a great job on the one and I like it.
Heres one of the snake canes Id carved. Scarey when one was laying on the floor! I know that!
Keep up your "original" work! You are doing a good job!!
