Thank you for the compliments!. I enjoyed carving the frog (which I have named "Turtle"), the wood was a real challenge but a great learning experience. I have some more of this wood I will do something with, just not sure what that will be yet. I have the wood for the chess set and want to start on it but I think I would like a little more practice. I carved the lion from the corner of the block which really helped with the shape of the face, but I didn't start it far enough down the block so his head is rather flat. Also, I am not happy with the bluntness of the cuts and would like to get more roundness. My sanding is all hand sanding, is that my problem?

sappy, I love the frog, whatever you want to name it. While it is difficult to do realistic frog paint, your wood choice was excellent. A sobering thought is that my frogs WIP will look far more like turtles than yours ever will.

Thank you Robson and Bob. Did you notice you both have the same number of posts? That's pretty weird. I really didn't choose the wood to make a frog. I looked at the wood and all I saw was the frog. I'm sure you know what I mean. I was just lucky I didn't loose the whole thing with the rotten wood. Maybe now I'll make a turtle and name it frog. Oh La!

Both are excellent, the grain on the Frog is very nice. Love to see the chess set if you make one.
