I have always wanted to take up the challenge of carving a turkey tail feather. So this week end I'm going up to my cabin by Yosemite and go turkey hunting(the spring seasons open) and see if I can't get me some reference. Has anyone else carved, burned and painted a turkey feather before?? What was your experience?

Yes , i've carved a tail feather for a Turkey, it was a challenge, keeping the burning lines going in the right direction, the sheer lenght of it.

Fine work on the Turkeys, they would be a challenge to paint as well as carve, congratulations. !!

Carving a single feather used to be a regular category at the worlds. The carved feather was mounted next to the real feather and in most cases was difficult to tell them apart. I haven't carved a turkey feather,,but have carved single Pheasant tail feathers. Man they get long and a challenge to keep those burning lines tight and in a row over that length. |

I've carved alot of turkeys but never a single tail feather. I've always wanted to give it a try... Even started a couple over the years but have never stayed with it. Good Luck on your "Reference Quest"... I leave in the morning for a three state, week long, gobbler round-up. Steve |
