Default Suzies pair

This my first post here though I've been reading here for some time.

This past Feb. I had to put down my 10 year old black lab Suzie, she was a veteran of many seasons and many places around the NE and even midwest. I had always intended to do a pair of woodies for some of her ashes so that at least once a year we can hit the marsh together. This is the 5th decoy I made and found it very challenging as I started the pair with the hen first. Never did raised feathers before either and I struggle with paint but slowly figure some things out. Still have the other side pocket to do and then start the drake.

Thanks

Hi John,

I'm sorry for your loss of Suzie. You've done a great job here with this gunner. Nice work with both the carving and with the paint job! I'm looking forward to seeing your work on the drake.

A very fitting tribute!

Mark

NICE! What a great way to honor your best friend Suzie! There was a momma like this in our pond yesterday..she had 14 little babies swimming around her. Tiny lil things.

Suzie, I'm very sorry for your loss of great companion,I know what it means to loose a Lab as I used to breed and train them for hunting. What a great tribute to your Lab as you artistically carved and painted and displayed the
ducks for us, thanks.

Hi John,

I, too, am sorry to here about your losing Suzie. That's a great hen you've carved and a great way to remember her.

Welcome to the group.

Really lovely work! Sorry to hear of your lab's passing. I'm sure you will keep her alive in your memories though. I still have great memories of dogs I had over 40 years ago.

Great Job on the decoy, I know what it's like to lose a good friend like that.
I buried my lab and put one of my decoys on her grave, I pass there often
with a lot of good memories.

Thank you everyone for the compliments, she was a special girl no doubt and blessed to be able to travel with me and hunt the way she did. I wrote a tribute for her and posted it on some of the waterfowl forums I visit. Here is a link to it, I'm not sure how some will feel about it due to the fact it has several pictures of her on hunts and I'm not sure how that goes here but if in fact it bothers anyone moderators please remove the link.

Thanks again.

John, Great looking decoy. My heart goes out to you about your lab. I also had to put down mine last year. It was the hardest thing I have done. It hurts and what you are doing sure helps to honor her and keep her close to your heart. Pets become a part of you. Welcome to the forum, there are a lot of good caring people here. Welcome Ben
