Fine looking eagle. Life size will be one large bird. Looking good, be sure and keep us posted on your progress. We have been fortunate here to have several nesting on Beaver Lake here. They seem to be fond of very large carp in the lake. You can see fish bones on many of the rocky banks. Such a beautiful bird. They have eagle watches here up until late Feb. but we now have some that stay here year around. Grand Lake of the Charokees in OK has a large group that stay year around too. Great comback from the 60's when it looked like they would disapear all together.
Carve on

Definately a bird Hugh! It's coming right along, have been watching for picture updates, thanks for providing one. Well done.

How about a nest. I am currently working on a life size eagle commission that I'm planning on weaving sticks and branches into a lifelike nest.

Hi Ron, I've done nests for other birds, owls, loons , and went to a craft store, bought a big wreath made from small sticks, made the nest out of the wreath material, and used spanish moss which is quite cheap at the florist shops, wove the moss in for a nest liner. Used a lot of hot glue to hold the nest in the shape . It was quite credible actually. Hope this helps.
I've been working on the mount for my eagle this week, made a lot of changes, and it is looking much better, to my eye any way. Cheers. Hugh

Thanks Hugh, I have plenty of sticks I can gather and the Spanish moss is a great idea. There will be two eaglets in the nest and I have been trying to decide what to put in the bottom of the nest. I have also been experimenting how to carve the fuzzy feathers on the eaglets. Any suggestions? Thanks, Ron

Ron, it is something different for sure. Lifting feathers, stoning, then burn over the feather using lots of splits. But to be honest, my chicks never looked very fuzzy to me. Carved one of the chicks just coming out of the egg, I was something different.
