Nathan, a good place to start is wiyh a good pattern designed specifically for wood carving. Here's a link to Gordon Stiller's pattern site. This should go right tp page 30...scroll all the way down for a grey squirrel pattern..

If you carve using power, Frank C. Russell has several good books. Carving Realistic Animals with Power has good carving information and includes a pattern for a realistic squirrel. If you carve only with hand tools, Desiree Hajny has several books that might help you. I know I've checked one of hers out of the library that had a squirrel pattern and information on carving the squirrel. I just don't remember the title of that particular book. Good luck to you. I hope we will see a picture of your finished product one of these days. Beth

If you cut the tail off by too much pressure..... super glue the sucker back on and sand lightly around the dry glue areas. When I was learning I was using the glue big time, wack an ear off and your on the floor, nose on the ground trying to find the darn thing. Most mistakes can be fixed or reworked.... so do not worry....just keep on trying, and trying and learning and trying some more.
