I'm new to song bird carving. Can anyone recommend some good books or other resources on the subject?

Take a look at the new carving books, shown on the right of the screen. The "Carving Songbirds" by Lori Corbett is the best that has come out on this subject.

The first books I bought was Songbird Carving 1 by Rosalyn Leach Daisey. I loved it so much, I bought Songbird Carving 2 as well. She has a series of books. I found them easy to follow and there are complete instructions from roughing out to painting.

I haven't bought Lori Corbett's book yet but it looks good and I plan to get it.

Chris.

Don't know how I missed this thread...but thank you Paul for the kind words!
Jon, the two best web resources for bird carving are this forum and Bird Carvers Online, which I see you are also a member of. Take some time (LOTS of time) to looks at the different topics here & on BCO...you'll find almost any question you can think of has probably been answered. Ros Daisey's books are certainly worth your while. There are also several books by various top level carvers dealing with specific birds. I think most are available through Fox Chapel's site.

Another option is to take a workshop. It will be an enormous benefit. If there are carvers in your area who offer classes, great. If not, save up some money and travel.

And never hesitate to post a question or send an e-mail.
