Hey errol -

Can't help you on the carving snow question myself. Seems like a pretty challenging thing to do, but would set off a bright cardinal beautifully. Be patient and hopefully one of the more experienced carvers here will pipe up to help you out with some ideas or advice. Soon.

Cheers!

Check out Lynn's blog. He has some pieces standing in snow and I believe he tells how he did it.

Just remember, whatever technique you do decide on make sure it will stand the test of time. While some of the commercial products look great they don't hold up to the handling or cleaning that will happen over time. That's why I steer away from them and use a solid foundation. It might not be sparkly and flakely but in 10 years it will look just as it does now while those other products will have melted and disappeared.
