Default Snake question

I am looking to carve a rattle snake in a pose much like the one pictured.
What I would like to know is should I piece together the blank with the proper grain direction? and what would be best to keep the pieces together?

Thanks.

hi bill, I would if i was carving this...separate pieces, with dowels for joints, you could carve the bottom as one , the piece thats upright & head part separate, it would be easy to snap, if you didn't do it this way...
