The tubing I used for the stem runs through the flower and becomes the beak. Since the beak is so thin, I had to add a wider piece of tubing (1/8 inch) over the part that is the exposed stem to make it the right thickness for the flower stem. The beak is made of 3/32 brass tubing that runs through the flower and up into the stem. It is all soldered together. I also added a little epoxy putty over the tubing on the beak to build it up, blend it into the head, and give it the right shape.

Splendid explanation on your method for taking photos of your Hummingbird David.

I have a 6490 as well, and have been enjoying it ....though I get a bit frustrated with the lack of a manual focus over-ride. I'm forever trying to focus (in macro) for my ship model shots and the bloody thing will 9 time out of 10, focus on the wrong object on deck and throw out of focus what I am trying to capture.

Great little camera though, but I uave to rely on my 35mm for the tight detailed shots.....cropping just isn't the same or give me the same results.

You are getting good results with it. Well done.
