Default red breasted nuthatch

Just finished this and it was a new one for me. This is the first carving I have ever painted with true color. I have recently done some carvings using earth tones or whites but this is quite the departure. Certainly gives me a new found respect for bird and decoy carvers, this is not an easy job.

Hope you folks like it.

Hi Mark,

Great job! The detail on the carving is fantastic (I REALLY like the tree) and it looks like you've nailed it with the color. It pops! I'm hoping this encourages you to do more.

Thanks for the comments, this was a tedious one for me. I have my second bird carving designed now and this has encouraged me to push a little more. It will be a chickadee on a beech branch with leaves. Will be starting on it in the next few days.

I have to ask more about your finish on this piece as well as others. How do you accomplish the dark brown of the back ground? This is another beautiful carving. I'm a definitely a fan.
