Great question Blackjaxe.
After I cut out the blossoms and shape and texture them I Lightly sand the pedals and stems with 320 wet sand paper (dont wet sand use it dry) this roughs the surface for the next step.
Next I assemble the blossoms and branch .
Next seal the wood part only of the branch with your favorite wood sealer (I use Deft sanding sealer )
Next I use a product made by Rustoleum called galvanized coating it comes in spray can and is gray colored .
I spray about 3 coats of this on the entire branch like a primer coat.
Next I use Rustoleum automotive primer (In a can ) I use the white but it comes in light gray or iron oxide colors as well.
Next I use acrylics to paint the branch and blossoms (Brush and Air brush)final paint .
A final satin clear after paint is cured in a week .
