Default Platypus

I finished the Platypus a couple of weeks ago but, had to wait for the base to be finished. The Platypus is made from Mesquite and the claws are made from Deer Antler.

Bill,

Very nice , reminds me of the picture in Woodcarving Ill., the one with woodburning . The antlers really a nice touch to offset the color.

I have a couple of questions, I see no tooling marks, is it power carved ? How large is it ? And what finish did you use. The wood grain really is highlighted so I was just wondering .

Beautiful piece

Ash

Thanks for the coments...
Primarily I am a power carver, but I use chisels and mallet for the intitial roughout.
I sand my pieces to 400 to 600 grit and then use Watco oil to bring out the grain.
The piece is about 16" long.

Dylan
That piece of wood was the left overs of a Rhino that I did some time ago, it seemed like the perfect piece of wood for the Platypus.
I also saw your Box Turtle...
Outstanding work!!!!!!!!
I'm just started on a Sea Turtle a couple of weeks ago, maybe in 6 mo from now I will be able to post.
