Default OOPS!

I broke a pewter foot yesterday while I was positioning the bird on a piece of driftwood. What's the best way to repair it? Solder? Epoxy? It broke right at the joint between the leg and the foot. Help?? ???

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

I would try the epoxy.

Because of the low melting point of pewter, just slightly greater
that most solder, I have melted pewter feet before by trying to
solder them.

Depending on the weight of the bird; you may have to drill out part
of the foot and leg, and insert a piece of wire to strengthen the
joint.

Chris, I'm sorry to hear about your accident! In my Rosalyn Daisey book she says some feet aren't heavy enough to support the bird. She suggests trimming the back tendon off, replacing it with a regular sewing needle which you super glue in place.
If you think this might be an option, there is a picture showing it in the book, I'd be happy to scan it and send it to you. Good luck! Callynne

I would use siver solder on pewter. I used to be a dental technician and used a lot of it. It is available at hobby store in small rolls with the small tube of flux. It may be difficult to do for someone not accustomed to soldering? Also the epoxy should work fairly well tho may not be good long term? Hope this helps...
