Default Re: New Painting Demo for Bird Carvers

Thank you all for the kind words. Nothing is as satisfying as giving someone that "Eureka!" Moment (wish I had more them when I started out...LOL).

Paul...some of the stuff in my demos is covered, but not as extensively. There are a few pages devoted to info on paint properties, an explanation of the color numbering system, and I touch on the differences between brands, etc., but space wouldn't allow me to cover it in great depth. There is a lot of other information besides the actual carving and painting of the 3 species: extensive info on tools, LOTS of anatomy (with many illustrations), design & composition, building legs & feet, clay model making, setting eyes...850 photos and 100 illustrations in all. (Was that a shameless plug? BIIIIG grin).

I also have a list of reccommended books for bird-carvers on my site.

One of the must-have books for understanding color is called "Blue & Yellow Don't Make Green" by Michael Wilcox. This book goes into great detail on how color behaves and teaches how to see and understand what goes on behind the scenes when mixing colors. It is considered the bible of color mixing books, and well worth buying.
