Default New Carving Posted

I've just posted a new carving on my site. Actually, it's one I did in April...I'm just getting around to updating my site.

Here's the link, if anyone is interested in looking:
Miniature Mountain Bluebird on Lava Rock

Thanks!

Thanks, all, for the kind words! He sort of took on a life of his own while I was making him...not a whole lot like my original idea. I've learned that when a piece doesn't "cooperate", it's telling me to follow it, and not try to force my will.

Hi_Ho...those itty bitty legs & feets were made from 20 guage brass wire and Aves Apoxy Sculpt. The toes were all made separately, then fit and bent to position . Once bent, the Aves was added to form the pads on the bottom of the toes, allowed to dry, then carved down and the joints were detailed. Then the toes were super glued to the leg and another small bit of Aves was applied to form the upper foot where the toes join the legs, and details pressed in.

The legs were made first. A 20 guage brass wire was cut and bent, then temporarily glued into the leg holes. Then bent to the position I needed, and glued permanently into the bird. The one leg was then soldered to the wire branch. A piece of 28 guage brass wire was glued to the rear of the leg, forming the tendon that runs the length. A bit of Aves was added to the leg and detailed before gluing on the toes.

Hope that made sense...it's a painstaking process, and frankly, one I really don't enjoy - 'specilly when I drop the little buggers...I've rolled my chair over dropped toes a dozen times if I've done it once...lol. It takes about a half a day to make & fit the toes & legs.
