| | New Birdie Hi
Here is one carving i made of one of the most common birds on the feeder here in Norway (in my gallery, was not able to up load it here).
They are almost everywhere and the love to give an scolding when you disturbe them with more food.
Biting the hand that feed them....
They can get so tame they will eat from your hand (but still give you they word of mouth).

| | Re: New Birdie Magne, I like the bird carving. Especially, the way that you have it posed looking at the ground. The only suggestion I would have is to carve something as the focus of its gaze to be placed in the scene (being careful that the new subject does not detract from the bird). |

Thank you for the kind word.
It is focusing on an earth worm sticking it's head up thru the leaves. |

| | Re: New Birdie Very nice carving. I really like how you have it posed focusing on the worm, it brings the bird and the base together nicely.

| | Re: New Birdie Magne, Wonderful job. I very much agree with Paul, the balance on your bird is perfect. I feel as if I touched his tail he would be in flight instantly. Your leaves are great too ... are they carved as well?

| | Re: New Birdie Thank you Susan.
The leaves are made out of brown paper and painted with acrylics.
The veins is made with an burning pen with an soft cloth underneath, i think it was Scheeler who mentioned this technic in of my books.
To "thicken" some of the leaves i did use this matte stuff and it was great to work with.
I did use it heavily on the mushroom and it makes the carving get an "fleshy" touch but it does not show so good on the pictures.
Muellmath did use this technic on an cactus, it work great as an glue for the leaves too.

| | Re: New Birdie Magne, great job! I love how he's looking down at the worm! What is the name of the matte stuff you used? I'm always on the lookout for habitat information!
Milford, go to the top left of this page, under Carving Community click on Carver Galleries, when that page opens select Member's Galleries. Just click on "M" in the alphabetic choice and it will take you to MADA's carvings.
Again Magne, terrific work, thanks for sharing with us! Callynne |
