I carved three of these guys this spring. I posted a thread earlier on the first one I painted. These two guys I am painting concurrently. A friend suggested that I get a CD from Pat Godin (an incredible carver/painter) on painting a Drake Wigeon smoothie. So, I did. I'm making some progress (soon to be interrupted for a week). Since the board seems a bit slow, I thought I'd put up some pics from the end of my day today. It's great to have the CD and also great to have two birds to paint at the same time. I can paint one and look at it before I move to the second one. Any lessons learned can be applied while they're still fresh (at least theoretically). I finished all the base coating. The vermiculation is being handled via texture paste and combing. The tail, upper/lower coverts, flanks, primaries, tertials, and scapulars are now pretty much done. I gazed at them while eating dinner and decided I have a few details to tend to, but nothing significant. I hope to get the side pockets and breast done tomorrow. The head will have to wait until I get done with that river that's calling my name. ![]() My summer studio (and, often my winter one too). ![]() ![]() |

Very Nice Work....Randy. especially the heads. And it seems whatever trepitations you harboured about painting have vanished. Really nice job on painting the tertials, just remember to keep posting photos so all of us can enjoy your accomplishments. I must be deaf cause I don't hear any river calling my name !!!! Ken
