| | Monarch Butterfly carving Here's a few pics of the Monarch butterfly I did for my Mom for her 77th birthday. Carved from tupelo gum wood, painted with acrylics. Antennae are thread coated with Superglue. Legs copper wire with modeling paste to give them this look. Made the base sort of artsy fartsy with the stem of the daisy looking like it goes into the top of the base and comes out the side. Had seen this done by a few other carvers and wanted to try it. . Plus I wanted the flower and the base to not detract from the butterfly but compliment it a little. Thus the black base. Mom was happy which of course...made her son happy. |

| | Re: Monarch Butterfly carving Marc... Excellent job! I can't show this to my wife because she'd want me to carve her one. It looks too delicate for my Neanderthal hands!

| | Re: Monarch Butterfly carving Thanks everyone for the kind words! Will be doing a Tiger Swallowtail next for my daughter. First she wanted me to do this mutant Blue Morph!! Like the largest butterfly in the world!! HA! Up to a 14" wingspan! So talked her into the Tiger. Wait till you see the base I've got figured out for this one. Can you say...artsy fartsy?! |

| | Re: Monarch Butterfly carving Nice piece Marc. I'm glad to see you carved it correctly. I 'm including some butterflies on the piece I'm doing now.The client fancies herself an "artist" and provided sketches with the body on TOP of the wings. No changing her mind. 'Course what she's paying,,I'd carve propellers and jet engines on 'em if that's what she wanted.I'd rather carve what you did. Originally her "design" called for more than 30 of the little buggers,,,got her down to 5...I call it a WIN

| | Re: Monarch Butterfly carving That is my favorite butterfly, and I really enjoyed seeing it.
I think the base really compliments it well, and I'm sure your mother will enjoy it for ages.
