Default Models for Animals

I originally posted this as a reply to the armature thread for caricatures. Maybe it should have been here instead.

What type of models can be used for animals?

Any book suggestions?

I have used the resin cast animals that are available from toy stores, Hobby Lobby, and/or Michaels, or from catalogs. I used the more expensive ones because they have more detail. TOM H

After doing some practice boards of horse heads from a coloring book, I'm trying a raccoon head on a basswood plank, it looks like he's popping out of a hole in a tree. I found this picture in some great craft books at Hobby Lobby a couple of weeks ago, they were 50% off.

A lot of great info & helpful people on this site.

Thanks.

Book suggestions:
An Atlas of Animal Anatomy For Artists
W. Ellenberger, H Dittrich H. Baum
Dover Publication

Horses And Other Animals In Motion
Eadweard Muybridge

As for models realistic toy's are great little models or you can build your own using pasteline (Chavant touche) non-drying clay. Some models do require an armature but if kept small you can use tin foil and light wire. Another excellent model are animal mounts and can be found at most sporting goods stores (ask to photograph them most will let you). Or even antique shops such as the Buffalo mount I have in the newest forum here on WCI.
Hope this helps some

I use Google's image search feature on the web to find various images of the subject I'm interested in.
