| | Missing Birds of Prey Seminars Having both of my wings mended at the shoulders this Spring, has caused me miss a great seminar (red-taliled hawk with Falconer this month. I also got a flyer from Floyd Scholz, annoucing his summer seminars in Vermont. I have been following these two great birds of prey carvers for the last five years. I'm hoping my doctor at the VA Hospital gives me a clearance to start carving again; I might be able to convince my wife that we should go visit our daughter and our new grandaugther in Rhode Island and I could just slip away to Vermont and Floyd's August seminar. Come folks help me think of a good reason why I SHOULD the August seminar.
By the way Floyd Scholz's seminars are as follows.
June 15-21,2008
Introduction to Bird Carving,Miniature Bald Eagle sitting on a rock
Juy 13-23 2008
Lifesize American Kestrel
August 10-23 2008
Lifesize Merlin

Hey guys I'm not pandering(new word I learned by listening to Hillary & Obama beat each other to the ground), just thought some lucky person can attend. All I got to do is convince my wife of a NICE yeaaaa, way to spend my stimulus check that hasn't arrived,oh well I can dream can't I.

| | Re: Missing Birds of Prey Seminars Oscar, I know first hand the discomfort of the shoulder surgery, but BOTH at one time???? I had mine done over a two year period, and it put me in "stop that carving business" for almost 6 months after each.
When you get on the mend, be sure to follow the doc's and the therapists advice on excercising those wings. It's a pain (literally) but if you don't work 'em, they will stiffen and not return to full use.

| | Re: Missing Birds of Prey Seminars Oscar, don't worry about the seminars right now, just get better physically you already have a seat in the seminar of your choice next year. Been working on my schedule for next year and I think I have a Kestrel and a Merlin planned as well. Floyd and I go way back and are the best of friends. He's the one who convinced me to go full time and he's my go to guy if I have a question. He's often said that I'm just the west coast office of the raptor adademy. Just think about getting healthy and we'll talk soon. Semper Fi!! |

| | Re: Missing Birds of Prey Seminars I just have to say, I went to his seminar at Ward 08, "Raptor Dynamics", Scholz is amazing. His feathers look so incredible- splits, waves...
He's also quite well-off, for an artist especially. Someone told me one of his carvings sold for thirty thousand. One carving. |

| | Re: Missing Birds of Prey Seminars Out of curiousity - was that the only project he worked on during those two years? Even if it was - WOW! Now that's some serious skill & reputation to command that kind of price. I don't think I'll ever try to carve realistic birds, but man I sure do admire those who do. You folks are truly gifted and AMAZING!!
