Smile Manatee Carving

Hi Everyone,

It's been awhile since I last posted anything here, so I thought I would share a Manatee carving I finished not long ago. The manatee is butternut and the base is mahogany. The pattern came from a book, but I dont remember the name right now.

The manatee is butternut and the base is mahogany. The pins for the eyes is a very good idea, I hadn't thought of that.

That's a very nice sea cow you have there! Over the years I've led canoe trips for over 2,000 miles total on Florida's Suwannee river, but only once did I have the fortunate opportunity to be so close to one as we paddled up the current into Manatee Springs. It was right below us and the kids were focused like a laser on it. Great experience!

Thanks for sharing! It's a keeper for sure.
