| | Re: Looking for Raven Pattern A very simplified answer.......
*Crows are 14 1/2" - 17" long and ravens are about 21" long.
*Ravens have that distinctive neck, chin and chest rough feathering.
*Crows are common coast to coast and border to border in USA but ravens are common only in west and north west areas and in Canada. *One variety of raven is common in Mexico and SW areas of USA.
*Crows and ravens do not inter-breed.
I live in Missouri and feed many dozens of crows -- I love them, but I've never seen a raven in my life. |

| | Re: Looking for Raven Pattern In flight you can spot the difference pretty easily......ravens have a wedge shaped tail and a crow's is fan shaped. Unless I miss my bet, the crows also soar with wings fairly straight out and ravens have a slight dihederal. The ravens around here are huge! Crows don't normally get much bigger that a pigeon (a big pigeon). I'll see if I can get some pics of their nests here when they start to breed. Their aeiries are on the side of steep cliffs and we have just the ticket for them to nest right behind our house. Raven Habitat!

| | Re: Looking for Raven Pattern Thanks for the explanation. I'd heard the terms all my life but always thought and have been told they were the same species, just different names. Thanks again. Now I can say I learned something today. Garon | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
