I have been carving decorative decoys for 10 years and looking to start carving parrots; any tips, web pages, or know were I can find patterns, feet, and eyes. Thank you in advance for any tips you can send my way. |

| | Re: Looking for advice on carving parrots. Hi Bob,,I see you're fairly new here. Welcome. After 10 yrs of carving decoys how about a couple of pics.I'm a decoy carver at heart and have always loved carving ducks, birds, birds of prey.
I'm not sure with your experience as to what you really need. Patterns? don't have a clue as to where to send you. Feet,,you're probably better off making them yourself as you would an Eagle for example.
Knowing decoys as you do ,,a parrot is really a verticle duck with less neck!
Sorry,,so how about a pic or two? |

| | Re: Looking for advice on carving parrots. Bob,
You might check some of the online used book sellers to find a copy of Parrots of the World. It is a pricey book new, $60. the last time I checked. I never buy new books anymore if I can find them used first. There are quite a few color plates sprinkled throughout the book and you could probably make a pattern from some of the pictures.
I always wanted (and still will do, one day) a Tiffany-esque parrot in stained glass. One day......... but you should be able to find enough reference material to do some good sketches and make a pattern. |

| | Re: Looking for advice on carving parrots. Bob,
Back about 12 or so years ago, Wildfowl Carving Magazine had a feature on carving a parrot--don't remember anything sooner than that. A quick google search found http://www.parrotcarvings.com/
There's some neat ideas to be found by looking at that webpage.
