Just finished this carving last night. I've been unproductive, wood-carving-wise recently, as I just spent Monday-Friday on travel for the last three weeks. Only got a chance to work on this on the weekends... This is a leaping dolphin; original pattern is from "The Art of Stylized Wood Carving", Charles Solomon & David Hamilton, Fox Chapel Publishing. Mine is 12.5 inches tall, 1.5 times the size of the one in the pattern - I thought the larger size would look better... Carved from Black Walnut, finished with several thinned coats of MinWax Gloss Varnish, and liquid floor wax. Claude |

Nice work Claude. That is a great example of motion in wood. Now you know you should be packing that travel carving set while on the road... just in case.

Hi Claude, That is beautiful. The finish really shows off the wood grain nicely.
