Default Kestrel from War Eagle Seminar

This is the Kestrel I used to demonstrate the acrylic painting at the War Eagle Class this past September. I am fairly pleased with it but see areas that I should have done a little different. Always room to improve. The skull is real, not carved. The Honry Toad is fiberglass replica that I cut out and painted with acrylics. As I had mentioned in previous posts, I am not in competition and teach my classes from the standpoint of getting a pleasing carving display that my students are satisfied with and proud of.
Next years project is going to be a choice of 2 birds. The more advanced one is of two Costa Hummingbirds on a trumpet vine with flowers, we will do the birds with brass & copper flowers and leaves. The habitat will be a build up project.
The second bird will be a little simpler, a tern on a nest of sea shells. This habitat will be using shells and sand on a base with a base buildup of calking compound.
I appologize for the quality of the photos. Not very good here.
Charlie

Default Re: Kestrel from War Eagle Seminar

Here are some new pictures, I think they show detail better.
Kestrel was carved from a bass wood block and painted with acrylic paints.
