Hello,
Try "Carving Water Birds" by Anthony Hillman. It has patterns for 12 water birds including the great blue heron with three different head poses. I've had my copy for 10-12 years and just paid $6.95 for it back then. ISBN 0-486-26505-6. The book has some finishing ideas. Jo Sonja paints have three really good colors for herons.
Hope that helps.

I always thought that carving a Great Blue Heron would be the ultiment in carving. Thanks Donna for the info on the book. Skip

If I'm not mistaken, Frank Russell features carving a blue heron in one of his books. But Frank is a power carver so not sure this would help.

You can always check with Gordon Stiller on line. I know he has lots of wildlife patterns.
