Default Helpful tips in burning

Our new member Fishgap (Alfie) has been giving me some great tips (privately) regarding woodburning an image of my companion, Kira. I thought we would take the discussion on line as I am sure his information would be useful to others as well. I was asking for his help in burning, as I haven't done much and wanted some advice from someone who knows what they are doing.....from the examples on his website, he sure knows his stuff. I'll let him post his tips directly.

Also, he wanted to see some pictures of my dog and I couldn't figure out how to post them in the Private Message site. I'll attach a couple here.

Thanks Cola......you have been very helpful.

Bob

Hi bob, It will be real interesting to see the tips on woodburning. I burn on my bird carvings, and have tried a couple of animals photos. But the flat burnings didn't turn out so well. I love your dog also. My neighbour has the mate to it, big beautiful friendly dog. Very intelligent.

The snow is deeper than you think...we are actually standing on the roof of the car!

Just kidding, deep enough though! Yes the dog is a Husky, a Siberian. She is 4 years old and has the very typical mask of the breed. One blue eye and one brown eye, also typical of the breed. That pink ball beside her is her best friend in the world.......my Granddaughter.....and it is really something to see them together. That child can do anything to that dog and she'll never flinch, pull away or growl, absolutely devoted to her. When the baby was crawling, she would crawl over to Kira and grab her by the ruff (long hair around her neck) and pull herself upright, and bury her face in the fur! That patience and tollerance of kids is also typical of the breed. Wish I had more of them, the dog teaches me much!

Take your time with burning. Alfie Tip #34 try to veiw the picture you are working from in 1" squares as you burn it on the board. pay very close attenshion to the direction and the way the fur lays. Use it like a map and burn the fur lines in the same direction.
Tip#35 In your mind veiw the picture you are working with as a black and white. The black are your burn lines the white are where you do not burn.
Tip#36 Note that there is darker area within the black area note them and burn them hotter and darker this will make them stand out and give your burning depth.
please if i can help with anything just ask.
This would make a good thread. Should we post it ?
Alfie
