I wanted to practice something with round edges as this seems to be where I need practice. My cat loving sister has a birthday coming up and though I have never been able to draw cats well I decided to try one. She also likes the old time wood toys and I had this in mind. This is one hefty cat and the photos make it look more so. Photos add 10 pounds you know! LOL! It's about 4 inches tall, basswood with a little acrylic paint and wood burning touch up. Critique welcome as I am trying to learn from my mistakes. This cat, though not great was a challenge for me because of the various angles, was a good learning experience.

Well. If you can't draw cats, you're quite good at faking it! The proportions somehow make me think that the carving must be 12-16" tall. I know 3 cats: Maury, Benny & Sam. None is Gato Gordo, but they average 17lbs each. "You want me to run 60' up that fir tree and nail that chipmunk? Hold my beer. Watch this." |

Thank you, Claude. I guess she has to, huh? <smile> Robson Valley, thank you, the cat is about 4" tall but if it where more proportional it would have to be about 12 inches to fit its weight LOL! I think I was wanting long hair, but didn't know exactly how to get there. I did a search for cats but all I found where whimsical ones. Oh well, maybe next time. |

That's funny AL. But it doesn't take a Jack Russel. Our little old Papillon has a way with moving them along.

Neat little-big kitty. Nice touch with the ball of yarn. I agree with the others. Your sister will love it. :-)
