Default Harlequin Hen Smoothie

This was probably the toughest bird I've had to paint. Making a basically all brownish grey bird look interesting. Although she didn't have to float as she was entered as a Smoothie, I hollowed her out using forsner bits and to my surprise she floats perfect....tail flat on the water and perfectly even from all sides.....probably the only thing I did right with this bird.

Anyways I had been babbling about getting this done and haven't posted any photos of the finished bird.

She looks like a "honey" to me. :-)

Curious as to how you did the hollowing job. Did you start with two separate pieces of wood and attach with screws? Carve a single piece and then saw apart? Or some other method?

As usual the carving and painting are just excellent. Sounds as if you competed her already. The hollow smoothies that I entered into last year's Columbia Flyway show had to be judged floating in the water. Sounds like different rules depending on the show.
