Default Harde painting sponge technique for birds

i am trying to find info on a texturing technique called the painting sponge. developed by mike harde to texture bird and duck carvings,but i have done a search on the net and can't find any info. can anyone give me some info and where to go to learn more about it?

its just a small sea sponge and you get them at any hobby shop

Sort of like dry brushing but with a sponge and maybe dabbing instead of brushing! Most of the paint dabbed on cloth to get the excess off then used on the bird carving.

thanks for the reply. is this a method that can substitute for texturing with points and stones using a power carver or dremel tool? do you know a website where i can read up on the technique?

I guess it depend of the effect you are achiving with your carving. I have seen some top quality birds that were carved stylized and feathers painted that looked as good if not better than some who carved the feathers.

they are called "smoothies" if you don't want to carve them, just paint them
