This is what I have been working on for the last six months or so. It is a life-sized Great Blue Heron, and was carved from tupelo wood and painted with acrylics. The grass and flowers were made from brass and copper. David

Thank you. The eyes are glass, set in epoxy putty (which forms the eyelid). David

That is amazine work amazing birds. One of the most beautiful birds in existence when they are on the ground or even flying. Put one in a tree and it is the scraggliest, ugliest thing going (they ain't got the prettiest voice either). I love them non-the-less. I'm truely envious of the carving. Have you done any loons? If so please post it/them. Love loons (don't you dare call me looney).

Absolutely georgeous carving! I love the great blues and have made 2-3 but still want to do at least one more rather large one....someday. You've done a great job in blending the feathers where the colors meet. Thanks for sharing the photos of your great carving. Donna T

David, it's guys like you that make we keep my blank of the blue heron just that, a blank! I don't know if you insipre so much as intimidate. What a gorgeous piece of work that is, both the carving and the habitat! When I see that I'd like to get started, but then think "nah, it'll NEVER" get to where I want it to! Al |
