Default glass eyes

What are the smallest eyes I can get. I did a dog head and really would rather have an eye instead of painting it.

thanks
Tammy

Hi Tammy, Check into the eye size for hummingbirds. That is the smallest I have seen.

Tammy, most suppliers sell eyes as small as 3 mm. That's the size for most hummingbirds as Tom E. has suggested. If you need smaller, they are available but not easy to find. I have used eyes as small as 1 mm. but would have to do some research as I've forgotten the source of the smaller eyes.

Tammy, i just checked a couple of my taxidermy books and the smallest i could find was size 3mm. I thought we used to get them smaller, but apparently not. Sometimes we can make them look smaller by using apoxie sculpt.

Tammy,
www.tohickonglasseyes.com has some bird eyes at 1 mm, and plenty of eyes at 2mm. They make a real good product also.

Tammy:
An alternative to gluing in glass eyes: paint the black part of the eye black and the white part white. Then mix up a little five minute two-part epoxy and apply to the black part of the eye with a toothpick. Be careful not to use too much, as it can run. I like to let it set up just a touch - you can tell while stirring it when it just starts to thicken a bit. Apply then and it won't run.
