Just finished this waxwing It was carved and painted with the info from Lori Corbett,s book Carving Award winning song birds.Exelent info .Painting was a challenge with obout 17 different paint mixes and a few changes thrown in.The bird was carved in Tupolo painted with acrylics. The branch was made with wood copper wire ,copper for the leaves. The crabapples were made of air hardening clay ,and mig wire for strenght. I am planning to enter it in a show in March. Gordo. |

Very nice cedar waxwing! You have captured the softness of the feathers on this bird. Your lines are clean and well carved. I like your feet very much...they are the right size, IMHO, I have trouble making my bird feet too large. They just seem to grow as I'm making them. Your habitat is well done. Congratulations and be sure to let us know how the contest turns out. Dick

I was just viewing you're new piece of work. Very good indeed. Especially around the eyes and the beek area. It has good detail and the feathering is nicely balanced. The flow of color is extremely well done. No harsh start and stop color lines. Maybe someday I can learn to paint my pieces like you> Thanks for showing. Ike Ickes
