Default finally made a base

This is a bluegill i carved some time ago and just now got around to making a base.

What do you think?

be nice please, i have only carved a few pieces so i am far from where i need to be.

I'd have to say you're doing very, very well for having carved only a few pieces. Nice work...keep at it. Hard to see real well on photos, but probably need to work on some of the painting aspects of getting depth and variety of values and hues into the painted surface. Those skills are not something a person can develop in a flash, I think. I can speak for myself anyhow. ;-)

Keep at it and keep up the good work.

here is a closer look at just the fish.

Thanks for the advice, and you are right, i need alot of practice on painting. You guys that really know how to paint make it look so easy....boy i can never get anything painted that satisfies me, but i love trying!

Very nice fish Jhr, I wold say that you have a great start to becoming a very good carver!
Work on those areas that you think you are deficient in and seek out others that has progressed further in carving and seek their critiques and advice. The best advice is carve, carve, carve, and then paint, paint paint! You have a real good start my friend!

Hi JRH I think that you are doing very good for just starting out,just try and improve with each carving. I have only been carving fish for a little over a year and have always tried to find a way to improve something on every piece I still have a long way to go but I think that the folks on yhis site have helped me as much as anything.Keep posting and listen to the folks on this site.good luck.
