| | Re: Finally finished the Great Horned Owl Hugh, do you really have to paint it? It looks so cute just as it is. Nice job, I do look forward to the painted picture too! Almost a shame to cover all those lovely feathers and shapes in paint. But then the painting is an art in itself. Thank you for the "before" picture.

| | Re: Finally finished the Great Horned Owl Hugh my friend I dont know how I missed this post probably because I am not a bird carver (Wanna be) but dont have the talent or patience. I have to compliment you sir on the great horned owl he cant believe you did him life size that must have been a long project. The carving that really caught my eye is the Saw Whet owl he is magnificent if I didnt know that was a wood carving I would be ready for him to fly out of the picture. Wow he is really life like, wish the good lady would let me spend the money you would be shipping him to me but she wants new furniture so sorry my friend maybe next time, I am sure you know how it is. I could ask her but he answer would be "Sure Colin you need another carving like hole in the head" and if I purchased him I probably would have one LOL ![001[1]3424](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/001[1]3424.gif) At any rate excellent job Hugh as usual Colin |

| | Re: Finally finished the Great Horned Owl Colin, I have a few near misses on those holes in the head myself. First snowmobile I brought home, I was going to make monthly payments. It was ok if I could pay for it, but the little woman did a rare thing, PUT HER FOOT DOWN, AND SAID 'NO'. never did get over it. LOL.
The web page is up and running, for carving the Saw-Whet. http://www.feathersinwood.com/SAW-WHET-DEMO.htm
Its a big page, so if anyone has dial up, its going to take a minute or two to load. let me know if there are any problems, or if you want more information. ![003[1]](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/003[1].gif)

| | Re: Finally finished the Great Horned Owl Hugh, congratulations on the web site update. The Saw Whet Owl practicum is perfect! Detailed, concise, well illustrated and covers everything a carver would need to try one. Thank you for sharing those lessons with us, they would certainly help guide a new carver through the process and make their experience a pleasurable one. A successful carving (especially at the beginning ) certainly encourages new carvers along the road to enjoyment. Well done.
