| | Re: Elk done!!!! I was just watch a TV show, Outdoor Idaho, on hunting Elk. There was some great filming of a bull elk and they played a song that kept repeating, "a King came by one day". Sounds like a carving title too! ?????? Hmmm. Brought tears to my eyes

Thanks. dark brown? Light? Or? they were pretty dark brown but I toned them down some. wasn't sure on that since photos I have printed out don't have very good color.

Fantastic job, no critique here!!
For coloring or examples of the antlers I would go to your local bar or sporting goods store. I know when I was living in Idaho Falls Elk mounts were common so there is bound to be some good examples there. If you lived in SE Idaho I'd tell ya to just go to Jackson Hole and the refuge they have there. I know that to see one in the wild is rare, for all the exploring I did when I was there I never saw one. I saw plenty of moose, antelope, and mulies, but for Elk you really have to go remote.
Again, we are in awe of your work.

white on the tips where they would rub them on trees, they would look like they are stained almost. I can see a blue ribbon
at the Boise show in march!!

| | Re: Elk done!!!! Very nice Nancy, how long did it take for you to complete. Also did you carve to horns separate and did you laminate the wood for the rest of the carving? Really beautiful work.

| | Re: Elk done!!!! Nancy, you should be pleased with the way that came out. Beautiful animal, he looks the way he should, well animated, the bull of the woods. Don't know much about elk horns, but I do know that white tail horns vary in colour, according to age, and diet. The horns look realistic. Just my opinion, and my opinion is often not the right one.
