Default Eagle burnings.

Last week we had a good chat regarding Totems and Spirit Guides and that along with my first adventure into burning motivated me to gather up a drawing that I had been given and some photos and to see what they inspire me to do.

The following is the result. Each of the small images surrounding the central image are based on instances when I had encounters with Bald Eagles and happened to have my camera along, (some intentional encounters and more often chance). The most memorable is the small image to the right, where I was privilaged to witness the Eagle fishing and successfully take an eel through a small stretch of open water in an otherwise frozen river. The central image is a based on a sketch that an art student did for me a few years ago and gave to me for a Christmas gift. (He was dating my daughter at the time)

I promise not to bore you with any more burnings in the future......but they are fun and provide that quick "fix" that Fishgap was talking about. It's been a long winter up here folks! Smile I'll get back to my ship model carving now.

Bob

Very nice Bob. Is that a basswood plate and I was also curious about what kind of finish you used?...Reg

Yes Reg, the plate is Basswood, and the finish is just a couple of coats of varathane, flat finish. Chipping Away had some on sale......with some defects, so I picked up a couple and sanded the defects out of them. Simple little things to do, but a nice jolt of gratification when complete.

Great job Bob,...I've never carved a bird yet, but mentally have a carving developing in my mind dealing with an eagle bust that I'm going to tackle very soon, maybe you've tweaked my imagination just enough to rough it out.

Great piece Bob I also agree that there is something about a bald eagle that is inspiring. Here is a piece of information that you may or may not know. The Bald Eagle got its name not because it looks bald, but because the old English word for white is "Bald" there for because of its white head (That appears when it is four years old) is where it got its name. Just another useless piece of info for you. This week I saw many great Bald Eagles carved I have pictures that I will share later.

Yes, that's a great looking burning! we just got back from a campout with the scouts and were talking about the increased number of bald eagles around, an how majestic they look. Then someone commented that they don't look so majestic when you see them crawling out of a road-kill deer carcas coverd with blood. Kinda takes the mystique away, but as soon as they gain some altitude, they regain their majesty! Quite a bird!

It seems odd that someone would speak of camping this time of year. Around here it isn't camping weather. although when I was younger, we used to go on overnight snowmobile trips. But we always had a camp to stop at. Send a little of your heat up north will ya.
