| | Re: eagle I had started working on the feathers but there was still something bothering me with this piece.Visually the base didn't quite add to the story. So this morning I made a few minor changes that got me to where I want to go.I got the piece to shift it's weight to look more like it is depending on it's right foot and Bible for support. Also by pushing the "rock" under it's left foot further down, and revealing the talons,,it seems to have more of a look of trepidation,,wanting to go,,yet still unsure. The base lost it's massive blob of dough look, and now what will be rocks look a bit more precarious, making the bird depend more on it's right foot and support than the rock base, and yet the piece still I think looks like it's looking off in the distance to someplace it might like to go,,,it can't stay here much longer and can't wait till it's finished.( do you remember feeling like this in High School?) I also think the very base rock,if you look at the lines ,,triangulates the piece subtly to lead your eye back up to the center of the bird,,the line of that rock and the outside line of the book complete the two sides of the triangle with the point being somewhere in the center of the bird ,,which is where I want your eye to end up...the right leg also adds to this effect. The base before did this to some extent but now it does it with a bit more drama . If you notice,,I also cut it's right leg completly free,,this I think will add to a more finished look as compared to the left leg which as I said will not be completly finished,,it'll add more of a juxtaposition to the final piece.

| | Re: eagle you know, mark, that is really valuable listening your thoughts of why you do things, and comparing with what i thoughht why you did this or that... and, maybe, i should dare put my wip up for find help, too... i like how you make the statement clearer, the eagle is so eager to take off, i think it comes from that you carved his foot free... and the triangles, yes i see these too...you often spoke about these composition issues, and i find very good to see how you do apply these ideas in a carving....i mean, somehow, in 3d is more difficult, so many views... looking forward to more :-) :-) |
