 Detailing realistic feathers on birds of prey Today I was trolling down memory lane and I read a very interested thread (11-17-07) where Carver27 (David) posted a thread, asking about detailing feathers. I was totally impressed by Mark Yunt's answer, not only did Mark explain how he details feathers but also included photographs that were so clear and realistic. Mark your detailing is so great, and it only opened my appetite to stick to carving birds of prey. I have a question for all you bird carvers, especially Mark how in the world can one carve feathers separately, particularly primaries and secondaries and attach them to the body of the bird. I have been toying withe idea of carving tail feather separatley with more detail then attaching them to bird. So far they look good, takes longer but all I have is time to carve, LOL.. poor me. Mark it's all your fault but I sure appreciate your expertise. Oscar  |

 Re: Detailing realistic feathers on birds of prey Oscar, as you are probably aware, my Redtail seminar starts on monday and I would be happy to have some photos taken of the way I detail feathers and post them here if you wish. I just wish that you could've made it up here for this one. I'm up here to do all the preparations now and the lady bugs are hatching all over the place. Hope all is well!! | Re: Detailing realistic feathers on birds of prey Hey Jeff, glad to hear from you,I also wished that my surgery could have been postponed until after the seminar,but right now I have plenty of time to some reading and studing and how to accomplish all my postposed carving. However it's a little hard to use my tools and carve with one wing in a sling. However, I have been detailing feathers with my burner.I throw slats of tupelo in my planer and thin them down to where I can burn some details. Yes I would appreciate you sharing with me your method of detailing feathers. Soon as the VA gives me the thums up I will crank up my foredom and Ram 45 and continue trying to get the Peregrin Falcom right.
