| | Delicate question on male Elk anatomy Just dawned on me yesterday as I was working on the hind legs of an Elk that to be realistic I must get the anatomy really correct. So since I have never seen an Elk in the flesh I was wondering how much wood to leave between the legs. I am asuming that since they are related to deer and deer are related to goats that the bull Elk would be the same as a buck goat in that area??? Large, medium or smallish???? I have looked and looked for photos online but no luck in that area. TIA

You might wish to look at this site http://www.alaskanalpinetreks.com/Im...k_2/Index.html
Consider the size of the elk and basically the same size and structure as a stud stallion. I think that should help.

| | Re: Delicate question on male Elk anatomy Nancy I have been really close to a lot of elk in fact just a few months ago I had the privilage of seeing a whole herd up close. They are quite slender on the back end with their huge white tail area covering them from the rear. Here is a site where you can actually see them on short video clips without downloading. The clip of the elk cleaning himself is a good one,

| | Re: Delicate question on male Elk anatomy I was deer hunting in Oregon once and came upon a bull elk...he was completely exposed to me, at 50 ft., except his head. He hid his head behind a pine bough. I guess he thought if he couldn't see me, I couldn't see him! He was a yearling with spikes sticking up probably 2 or more feet in the air; I tossed a rock in his general direction so I could "flush him out of hiding" and see his head. One of those priceless moments!
Thanks, everyone, for not posting a picture! |
