Would like to know where I can get details to carve a deers head. My son is an avid hunter and would like to carve it for Christmas. Would like a 3D version, if possible.

I'm currently carving several deer. I was able to get more photo's than I could use right off the internet. Just Google whitetail deer photos. Another thing is just to visit a taxidermy shop if you have any local. You can also ask them if they know any local hunters who have good displays,,call them ,,tell them what you are doing,,and see if you can't visit. If you don't know any hunters,,,ask your friends if they do,,then follow up with a call or two. somebody always know somebody in any field of interest. Any nature reserves or learning centers near you,,,they have mounts as well. Doesn't your son have a mount,,or any of his friends if they are hunters? Are there any gun or hunting suppliers, archery shops around you? Go see if they don't have any mounts hanging around,,they usually do. If you just ask a couple of these places and people,,you'll find more than you need. Nothing a hunter likes more than showing off his deer. When you do find one ,,take along your camera if they won't let you borrow the mount,,,and a tape measure. Photograph it from all angles,,with a tape measure in the shot for reference,,and off you go. You can then easily scale it from there. Last edited by mark yundt; 11-04-2008 at 09:49 AM. |

Hey, another really good place to see highly accurate quality mounts would be a Bass Pro Shop or Calelas. We have a Bass Pro Shop here locally and sometimes I just go to study the mounts. You can also take all the photos you want. Take care Welcome to Sierra Creek Studios |
