| | Deer diorama Here is a set of 3 deer I finished a while back and just got around to photographing them. They are carved from Tupelo and painted with oils. The forest floor is mostly planer chips and glue with a few paper leaves added here and there and and the whole floor painted with oils. The brass plate says "Winner Take All"

Very cool piece of work, Doug............
Oh yeah, I don't want to be picky (the hell I don't....LOL....) but I don't think this qualifies as a diorama. Unless someone can correct me and prove me wrong, a diorama requires a background painting.........
Now don't go calling me a butthole either......

| | Re: Deer diorama Who cares what you call it as if that's an issue. That description is partially correct,,viewing a painting usually done on canvas through a small hole,,and the second ,,,according to Mr Webster,,"...2. a miniature scene, wholly or partially three dimensional, depicting figures in a natural setting." Doug,,,your DIORAMA is teriffic,,well done and that's all that counts in my book.I guess I'll call my eagle a sculpture since it doesn't really fit into any definitions to qualify as a carving,,realistic or not.

| | Re: Deer diorama Thanks guys. I really enjoy doing this kind of stuff as I do get tired sometimes of the Cypress knee Santas, but they are what sell real fast. |

Wikipedia dictionary......The current, popular understanding of the term “Diorama” denotes a partially three-dimensional, full-size replica or scale model of a landscape typically showing historical events, nature scenes, cityscapes, etc., for purposes of education or entertainment.
Wolf, we can call it a scene if you prefer. I don't really know the difference. |

It was, in retrospect, a feeble attempt on my part to be funny. At least, it struck me as funny but it looks like it ruffled Mark's feathers.
Oh well, those are the breaks in the Naval Air, commonly referred to as air brakes.......... |
